The Christian Science Community Board — Technical Information

Conference Titles

The Christian Science Community Board includes many conference titles divided among three categories — 0, 1, 2. This number appears in front of each title, e.g., "1 Healing World Problems" or "2 Photography".

"0" — guidance  and help with using TCSCB

"1" — church and Christian-healing related conference titles

"2" — secular-subjects conference titles

All threaded email messages you send using TCSCB facilities will appear under one of the conference titles. These messages will be retained for various lengths of time, depending on their usefulness over time.

Every topic and message body can be searched. Search results appear as topic headings and sentence context with the word/s bolded. Clicking on the result will take you to the complete message text.

This enables newcomers to read past messages to catch up on discussion threads — to review resources collected over time. Message writers can return to TCSCB to edit or remove any message they have written!

Your First Time Logging On

1. Your login name and password are sent to you when your subscription application is approved and account is set up.

2. Click on - TCSCB- in the navigation bar at the top or bottom of a page. Enter your login name and password; click the "Remember Password" box; then press -Enter-.

3. Complete your individual profile, including your bio, (called "Hobbies" on the form). This information will be available for subscribers to read. You may edit your bio at any time.

4. At the bottom of your profile are "Mailing List Format" choices. Select either "Non-digest", "Digest" or "Digest/ZIPped". Then click "Save." (At the top of the page is a line reading, "For help on each field click here.)

5. Click "More" on the top tool bar to reveal a list of commands always available to you.

6. Click "Mailing Lists" from the command list.

7. Click the boxes to select the conferences from which you wish to receive email. A suggestion — if you are not sure which ones to select, you might consider selecting them all. Then you can return later and de-select some if you wish.

8. Click on the "Welcome New Subscribers" conference title and write a short message including personal information you would like to share with other subscribers — background, hobbies, special skills or interests, family etcetera. When newcomers and old-timers read about you, it will "add a friendly face" to your email messages.

9. You now have two weeks in which to decide if you wish to remain a subscriber by paying your US$25.00 annual fee. Otherwise, your account will be removed automatically.

Technical Support

Call EcoTech between 8:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. CDT. Someone is usually available to help. Help is available within one business day by email or fax to assist with any problems or questions. PLEASE EMAIL LOGOS PRIVATELY until we are able to configure TCSCB to meet your needs. For Tech Support use support.tcscb@lii.net. Please do not clog up the TCSCB system with email. We need your help in trouble shooting this project. There is no way we can know all your desires in advance.

Nancy Charlton (nancjbc@snip.net), Administrator, and Vern de Guerre, (verndig@interlog.com), will be delighted to help, too!

Online Help

There is extensive online help on TCSCB at the click of a mouse. This help will walk you through most any situation. Like any new software, (Microsoft Word or Excel) there is a learning curve. Please be gracious and patient with yourself and with us.

Chat Rooms

Most every TCSCB conference has an associated IRC (International Relay Chat) chat room. Subscribers can meet online to discuss any topics you wish. Any Version 3 Netscape or Microsoft browser will work. Netscape sometimes requires you to click "yes" giving permission to download their Java capability. But usually this is no problem.

One especially nice chat feature is your ability to break out of group chat for totally private chat with a friend if you wish. (More on this later.)

More Features and Benefits

Special conference-titles resources can be made available, include the ability to have active HTML links, file attachments, photos, etc. Thus, individual members wishing to engage in a photo course or contest on TCSCB could post their photos for all to see.

Special conference titles will enable subscribers to link their own Web site to the appropriate conference message.

In the future individuals will be able to leave messages in private mailboxes available to subscribers.

Additional searchable resources are being planned for TCSCB, similar to the "Solo Words" which church musicians now are able to search. Subscribers will be invited to suggest resources they would like to have online and participate in supplying them.

Want to Teach a Course or Start a Club?

Subscribers are invited to apply to share their skills and expertise with others on a noncommercial basis. Any subscriber that would like to teach a course online is invited to submit a brief proposal along with the names of two other subscribers who would like to participate.

TCSCB will be happy to enable subscribers whose proposals are approved to utilize this distance-learning capability. Our conference board is used by many colleges and universities throughout the world for their distance-learning courses.

DOS & Email-Only Subscribers

Nancy, Vern and Tech Support can assist anyone with only DOS or email technology to take advantage of the TCSCB email capabilities on all Conferences.
